MURRAY CUT AFTER QUEEN'S WIN
14th June 2011
Stan James shortened Andy Murray's Wimbledon odds following his victory in the AEGON Championships at Queen's Club on Monday.
Murray beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in three sets, a victory which saw his odds cut from 6/1 to 5/1 with the Gibraltar-based firm.
A general 6/1 remained available about Murray ending Great Britain's 75-year wait for a male Grand Slam singles champion next month.
Ladbrokes are one firm particularly keen to get the Briton onside.
The firm report "an avalanche of money" for the Scot during Queen's which has left them fearing a multi-million pound payout.
Alex Donohue, of Ladbrokes, said: "There's mega money for Murray. Punters can't get enough of him and we're fearing the worst day in the history of tennis if he's victorious.
"We're firmly in Nadal and Federer's corner going into Wimbledon!"
Coral's David Stevens was less worried, though.
He said: "Andy Murray has proved his wellbeing with his victory at Queen's, and deserves to be in the top four in the Wimbledon betting.
"However, the big three above him in the market will ensure he still faces an uphill task to end his Major hoodoo."
Rafael Nadal is widely regarded as the favourite. Coral and Betfred will both give you 9/4, although the latter have Roger Federer as their joint jolly.
Federer is 5/2 (general) with Novak Djokovic, who has lost just one match so far this year, 7/2 at Boylesports.
Tsonga was also trimmed after an impressive display. totesport's 50/1 is all gone, so a general 40/1 is the best left.
He beat Nadal in the last eight at Queen's and will head to SW19 full of confidence.
