FOREST 14/1 FOR CHAMPIONSHIP
14th June 2011
Nottingham Forest are a best price of 14/1 to win the Championship next season following Steve McClaren's appointment as manager.
Boylesports offer that price, while they are joint top price with Coral about Forest getting promoted - 9/2 is on offer in that market.
betfred were particularly impressed by the appointment of the former England boss. They cut their title odds from 14s to 10s and their promotions price from 4/1 to 3/1.
William Hill's Graham Sharpe agreed, saying: "Forest were already regarded as serious title contenders and the appointment of McClaren can only enhance that profile."
However, Hills are wary about McClaren staying the job, offering just 7/4 that 2012 is the year of his departure from the City Ground. It's 20/1 he goes before the end of this year. He has a three-year deal - 13/8 is offering that he sees it out.
Forest are general 20/1 shots to be relegated next season.
Meanwhile, bet365 make Forest 15/8 to be promoted to the Premier League under McClaren's leadership.
bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth said: "McClaren has been given a platform to repair his reputation in England and Forest look to have every chance in a wide open Championship."
Prior to taking the England job, McClaren led Middlesbrough to League Cup glory and the UEFA Cup final.
After failing to get England to the Euro 2008 finals he took over at Dutch side FC Twente and took them to the Eredivisie title in his first season.
More recently he failed at German club Wolfsburg.
He has not managed in the Championship before.
